The inaugural staging of Magnum Dancehall Week ended on a high note with the execution of an incident-free Dancehall Street Parade and after-party in Kingston Jamaica on Sunday.
The Street Parade from Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre to the Mas Camp Village, drew attention as the large parade, comprising seven trucks, made its way through the Corporate Area showcasing an authentic dancehall vibe and energy.
“The support has been great for our first staging and we would like to thank everyone who made the Dancehall Week 2024 series of events and the Street Parade possible. Special thanks goes out to the government agencies that endorsed us and offered waivers or subsidies, our sponsors Magnum, Essential Discount-Mart, Clearsound, Boom, and Hitz FM, who all bought into our dream of celebrating dancehall in this manner.
“Not everything went exactly as we planned, but that can be expected with an execution of this magnitude, and we feel it was a great start and we look forward to an even greater execution next year,” said Dave Goldson, executive director of Dancehall Week.
A major stop during the street parade was at Nelson Mandela Park in Half-Way Tree, which culminated with a high-energy and animated performance by Tanto Blacks.
The team from Dancehall Week 2024 are appreciative and pleased that the hard work has borne fruit, highlighting the dancehall genre in grand fashion.
“We saw even international attention on Dancehall Week for our first staging, and so we know this is something great. As we look forward to Dancehall Week 2025, we are open to partnerships all across the island from entertainment professionals and corporate entities to make the annual staging even bigger and better; Dancehall Week is here to stay,” Roxelle Mckenzie, coordinator for Dancehall Week, added.
Dancehall Week 2024 was staged from February 13 -19 in Kingston, celebrating the love of the genre worldwide.
