Magnum Top Performa returns for a second season with Reggae Sumfest2023-04-21
The highly anticipated Magnum Top Performa competition is back for another season with an exciting partnership with Reggae Sumfest. The announcement was made last evening at the Top Performa launch at Romeich HQ in Kingston.
Regional Marketing Manager for the brand, Kamal Powell, was on hand to share brief details about the competition and the partnership.
“This year we will be relaunching Magnum Top Performa. It is a lyrical face-off style competition that unearths talent in the dancehall industry. For about two or three years we were locked inside so a lot of our new talent were unable to come out and showcase what they are made of. This year we are partnering with Sumfest and taking Magnum Top Performa to the road,” he explained.
The project started in 2021 as a virtual competition during the Covid-19 pandemic spearheaded by the Magnum brand team and Romeich Entertainment. This year the show will be held physically and will feature an exciting seven to eight weeks of live roadshows across the island as a lead-up to Reggae Sumfest. The overall winner of this year’s Top Performa 2023 competition will then perform live at Reggae Sumfest in July.
Chief Executive Officer of Downsound Entertainment, owners of the Reggae Sumfest brand, Joe Bogdanovic, commended the work of Magnum Tonic Wine and looks forward to seeing the winner perform.
“Partnerships like this one make the world go round. Reggae Sumfest is the pioneer of Jamaican culture we are happy to have the Campari Group through its Magnum brand on board as a partner this year… The deal is I have to really big up this company Magnum and Campari that made all this happen. We are deeply excited about the Magnum Top Performa competition as it creates a platform for undiscovered talent to be showcased and that’s what we do we support the youth at Reggae Sumfest. We look forward to the show and to seeing the Top Performa perform on the Reggae Sumfest stage,” he said.
The launch was well attended by major players in the entertainment industry such as Romeich, Jordan Chimney, XTM Nation, Kareem Remus Burrell, Ding Dong, emerging artistes, past Top Performa contestants, dancers, and other acts.
There was a scintillating Open Mic session where undiscovered artistes, were invited to do a short freestyle on the Top Performa entry riddim. Followed by performances from the past semi-finalists, first-runner up, Prince Saj; and the reigning Top Performa, King Calie.
