Organisers upbeat about the future of Dancehall Week
Dave Goldson, as the executive director of Dancehall Week, expressed confidence that the groundwork has been established for a more robust showcasing of authentic dancehall vibe and energy in the future.
The inaugural staging of Magnum Dancehall Week 2024 ended on a high note with the execution of an incident-free Dancehall Street Parade and after party in Kingston last Sunday.
In Goldson’s assessment, “Not everything went exactly as we planned, but that can be expected with an execution of this magnitude, and we feel it was a great start.”
Dancehall Week 2024 was staged from February 13 -19 in Kingston. It culminated with a Street Parade, which saw dancehall lovers journeying from Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre to the Mas Camp. The parade, which comprised seven trucks, made its way through the Corporate Area showcasing authentic dancehall vibe and energy.
A major stop during the parade was at Mandela Park in Half-Way Tree, where Tanto Blacks delivered an animated performance.
Roxelle Mckenzie, coordinator for Dancehall Week, said the fact that the event attracted international attention speaks volumes about its potential.
“We saw even international attention on Dancehall Week for our first staging, and so we know this is something great. As we look forward to Dancehall Week 2025, we are open to partnerships all across the island from entertainment professionals and corporate entities to make the annual staging even bigger and better, Dancehall Week is here to stay,” Mckenzie said.
